There is nothing an Aussie girl loves more than the beach and having fun in the sun.
Get ready for rising temperatures and long days lazing outside with our checklist to keep your skin healthy and glowing all summer long.
Our essential checklist for summer skincare will have you beach-ready with softer and smoother skin.
In summer the sun’s harmful rays can cause permanent damage to your skin. Stay one step ahead and faithfully apply sunscreen to your face every morning under your makeup. Our beauty tip?Wait about ten seconds so you know it is fully absorbed before you apply your foundation.
Pop on a high level SPF factor sunscreen at least 30 minutes before heading outdoors. A great tip to avoid those unfashionable burnt bits: try applying your sunscreen before you put on your swimwear. And don’t forget to re-apply at least every two hours, more if you are swimming or active.
Don’t go from bronze to red.
Faking it? While you may achieve your ideal golden glow, most spray tans and fake tanning products are not giving you adequate protection against the sun. Avoid being a red tomato under your shade of bronze goddess by lathering on sunscreen.
Add in an exfoliating routine.
With the exception of those bronze goddesses of course, summer is the ideal time to those remove dry, dead skin cells that built up over winter’s long-sleeve hibernation. Grab a loofah and your favourite gritty or grainy exfoliating scrub and don’t forget areas like knees and elbows that are particularly susceptible to dryness and flaking. For your face, you can’t beat Skin Clarity’s Deep Pore Scrub with a soft face brush to massage open your pores and remove excess oil.
Lather it on.
Especially after exfoliation, it is so important to hydrate your skin with a rich body cream or oil. Give your skin a boost with deep-acting moisturiser that re-hydrates any sun damaged skin and protects against wrinkles. For your face, Skin Clarity’s Oil Free Moisturiser is the perfect way to keep hydrated without excessive oil.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of water. Also up your intake of fruits and veggies that are high in water concentration. Opt for summery fruits like watermelon, which is 91% water, or strawberries with 91% water. Or munch on a green salad chock full of tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, celery, capsicum to ensure you don’t succumb to dehydration.
These dark splotches of skin discolouration on your forehead, cheeks and upper lip are sun spots. Fade your ageing sunspots with a serum or cream packed with antioxidants and start repairing the damaging effects of the sun.
Less is best.
Avoid excessive oil and your makeup sliding off your face and before you leave the house. Go for the minimal, natural look with a Tinted BB Cream or Tinted Moisturiser (look for one with a high SPF factor). Create a hassle free summer makeup glow by adding a coat of waterproof mascara and a hydrating SPF lip balm.
While a tan might be sound nice, the sun’s rays are harmful to your skin and eyes, with premature ageing, skin cancer, and loss of vision all possible harmful health effects. Each time your skin is burnt you run the risk of permanent skin damage and tell-tale nasties like freckles, wrinkles, sun spots and scars forming. Swap your baseball cap for a chic wide brim straw hat. Style it with some sunglasses and a cute coverup for a carefree summery look.
